PhD. Electrical Engineer

Boston-Power, Inc. is currently seeking a post PhD. Electrical Engineer, to join our R&D team. Candidates with 5+ years’ experience in battery and/or vehicle power systems, preferably experience with battery management systems, are an ideal fit for this role.  The position reports to the CTO in the Westborough, MA facility.  This is an excellent opportunity to join an exciting, dynamic, pre-IPO company delivering adaptive, scalable, energy storage platforms that meet the requirements of next-generation EV applications and the call for a more environmentally sustainable future.

Principal Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

  • Develop battery management systems for lithium-ion batteries with focus on electric vehicle application
  • Develop next-generation technology for incorporation into lithium-ion battery management systems and vehicle battery pack designs, especially including advanced safety features and advanced data monitoring, analysis and communication
  • Key contributor within the Electrical Engineering department for battery product designs and validation
  • Support research and development of lithium-ion batteries and packs
  • Support technology commercialization and transfer to manufacturing
  • Provide timely project status reports to Senior Management, Engineering and Production stakeholders  

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • PhD in EE or BS/MS with 5+ years’ experience in battery and/or vehicle power systems
  • Strong preference for experience with battery management systems
  • Familiar with lithium-ion battery pack systems
  • Knowledgeable and skilled in electromechanical design
  • Experience in analytic and simulation tools such as Mathcad, MATLAB, Simulink, Spice, Multisim
  • Familiar with PCB layout and circuit design
  • Power architecture and systems understanding, including DC-DC conversion, thermal management, and firmware controls and communication
  • Familiarity with programmable logic and microcontroller-based control systems design a plus
